Church and State
This is St Peters Church, in Liverpool Grove, south London, one of the few remaining churches designed by Sir John Soane. Built in 1822, it has remained untouched for years. Soane was born in 1753, the son of a bricklayer, and died after a long and distinguished career, in 1837. I've been living next to the church for fifteen years, and only just earlier this year have I actually seen inside. This week I was able to visit the crypt of the church, where a cafe runs Monday to Friday, with good coffee and a good choice of food.
